Friends of the Poor seeks to ease the burdens of living in poverty and enhance the quality of life for all.
About us
Friends of the Poor is a sponsored ministry of the IHM Sisters founded in 1986 by Sister Adrian Barrett, IHM and formally incorporated in 2002. Our mission is to ease the burden of living in poverty and enhance the quality of life for low-to-moderate-income families in Lackawanna County. We do this by offering emergency assistance in the form of food, clothing, household items, furniture, assistance with rent/utility and Need A Ride, transportation to medical appointments for Carbondale residents. We offer seasonal dinners for adults and seniors, programs and field trips for children and families, and Clothes Line for Men. We bring together in friendship those who have a desire to give with those who are in need of assistance.
