  • Celebrating #NationalSocialWorkMonth by honoring our very own JFS Social Workers. Say hello to the newest JFS social worker Kimberly Kramer! My journey into social work was deeply influenced by the support I received during some of the most challenging moments in my life, both in childhood and adulthood. This experience ignited a strong desire to pay forward the kindness and support I received, guiding me toward a career dedicated to empowering others through social work. I started my career working with survivors of intimate partner violence and assault. During this work, I recognized the critical need for more accessible mental health support for those in the community. Through my work, I hope to create a nurturing and supportive environment where my clients feel safe, heard, and equipped with the tools to thrive. My role is not to provide all the answers but to offer unwavering support and encouragement while empowering individuals to tap into their inner strengths and choose their path toward healing.

  • Celebrating #NationalSocialWorkMonth by honoring our very own JFS Social Workers. Meet Mrs. Maggy Bushwick! My inspiration to become a social worker grew from being raised by parents who devoted their lives to embracing and rehabilitating survivors of the holocaust who had suffered unimaginable traumas. After arriving at JFS, I became a caseworker for the resettlement program for refugees from the Former Soviet Union. In this capacity, with the assistance of many volunteers from the community, I coordinated the necessary resources for the adjustment to a new society and acculturalization for these families. Having the opportunity to establish an assistance program for holocaust survivors allowed me to address the specific needs of survivors of the holocaust. Through this program, we enabled survivors to live their remaining years as independently as possible, safely, and in dignity. The opportunities for social workers are not to only focus on the psyche of the person but to also change the environment the person lives in to enhance their lives.

  • Celebrating #NationalSocialWorkMonth by honoring our very own JFS Social Workers. Meet Mr. Don Minkoff! "As far back as I can remember I have wanted to go into social work. Before being hired at Jewish Family Service, I worked with children and adolescents in mental health day treatment programs, mental health outpatient programs, and after-hours mental health emergency service programs. During this time, I learned that I am glad I stayed with doing the work I wanted to do. The impact a social worker has can play a role in helping an individual/family change from a negative to a positive life direction. I’m very grateful to have been at JFS for over 20 years. Not only has JFS allowed me to use my skills with children and families but allowed me to work and have an impact with people of all ages."
